More about Raku
Raku is a glaze firing technique, done outdoors in a gas fired kiln,
instead of the indoor electric kiln. Unlike the electric kiln, pieces
put into the raku kiln fire in minutes rather than hours, and are
removed from the kiln while glowing red-hot. Next, the pottery is placed
in a smoky reduction chamber to intentionally blacken unglazed areas of
the piece, then plunged into cold water while still hot.
It's an exciting, participatory event that is fun for potters and observers alike.
Cost for firing members/nonmembers
up to 4" $5/$10
up to 8" $8/$13
over 8" $12/$17
